On the banks of the Dordogne awaits Souillac. This pretty town was once surrounded by a defensive wall. This time it has maintained a 12th century abbey, the abbey of Sainte-Marie, recognizable by its dome which evokes those of the Cathedral of Perigueux. The latter was enriched by the monastic building in the 17th century by monks. In addition to the abbey, the town has many vestiges of the medieval past as are belfry. Its museum presents collections automaton of the 19th and 20th centuries.
